Traveling: Idaho Falls, Black and White

I made one of my semi-regular trips back to Idaho Falls this late summer. This was the first time I’ve taken my camera and so I got up Wednesday morning and went to downtown with the intention of doing my photosbyfrances thing in the great urban city of Idaho Falls, Idaho. Unfortunately, the sun was mostly behind clouds all morning so I couldn’t get any of my signature light and shadow shots. I was disappointed about that, but I switched my camera into black and white and think I got some pretty decent stuff.

A little bit later in the morning the sun came and out so I’ll share a post with color photos next….

Throwback: Chase Street Warehouse

From October 2015:

Here is my spotlight on Chase St. Park Warehouse. This afternoon the members of the Athens Area Arts Council Board went over to survey the space. I had never been to the Warehouse with an eye toward photographing the space but I was so inspired while I was there! There are beautiful colors and textures and compositions and lines. The sun was behind the clouds today so I tried to focus on colors and lines – and included some black and white shots too. See what you think!

Throwback: Lyndon House 41st Exhibition Choices

In January 2016 I decided to make my first submission to the Lyndon House 42nd Juried Exhibition. I love Athens and I had told myself that I would feel like a “real” photographer if I landed some of my work at the Lyndon House, our famed city arts center. I curated 6 photos to choose from with the intent to narrow them down to three. I had two “themes:” one was nature and the built environment, and the other was minimal architectural. After asking for votes online I decided to go with the minimal architectural theme and two of the three were chosen for the exhibition! Minimal 1 and 2 were chosen and displayed at the Lyndon House next to a handful of additional photographs. The art writer in our independent magazine compared my photos with those of the minimal works of Ellsworth Kelly. I think I’d call that a win!
